Destination Peace
This past week I’ve been at the Lodge at the Mountain Park Environmental Center in Beulah, Colorado—now we are talking some big time beauty. I attended a marvelous retreat for wise women given by Coach Helene Van Manen. Talk about an out-of-body experience—I went from an elevation of 938 feet in Webb Lake, WI to a breathtaking 6,800 feet in Beulah. The Rocky Mountains defy description.
What did I experience? No hub-bub. Beauty everywhere. Clean air. Brilliant stars at night. Peace. Pine trees that tower high into the sky. Animal tracks. Hiking trails. Ponds and bubbling brooks. Beautiful snow. Sunshine. And the Lodge—full of cozy comfort. It was majestic, just majestic.
As part of the retreat, I took “medicine walks” each day. The purpose of the walks was to have space, be in nature and let it speak to you. I used to think this tree hugging stuff was goofy, but once I really paid attention to nature as a whole, I could hear God’s wonderful nature speaking everywhere.
As I walked I could hear birds, the sound of wind in the trees, the gentle sound of water and smell the fresh pine trees. As the leaned up against a 200 years old pine tree, I could hear the peace that I was longing for.
Where is your place to find medicine for your soul?
You are probably similar to most women—you have a fast merry-go-round life that pulls you in many different directions. You say you don’t or you can’t find time to do things that will fill you up—that can sustain you and keep you healthy.
Maybe you can’t take a week retreat, but what could you do to find that much needed self care space for YOU? Is it:
• A massage?
• A walk in a park?
• A candle lit bath?
• A movie by yourself?
• A pedicure?
• Canoeing on a lake or river?
• Going to an arboretum?
• Reading a book or listening to soft music?
• Sitting by a fire in a cozy chair?
What is your medicine walk?
Make a date to with you in your planner today. You are worthy!
Blessings!
