A Powerful Context

When my husband asked me last week, ‘How did you slow down?’, my first thought was context.

A number of years back I did some of Landmark Education’s personal development programmes. For me it was a fundamental part of equipping myself with tools to create my life rather than feel at the behest of it.

There were various expressions used throughout which have stuck with me.

One such is, ‘the context is decisive’.

I’m not sure I can do justice to explaining this concept, but what I retained is that my WHY is the most valuable driver of my behaviour. I’ll get out of bed, show up and do whatever it takes when I’m connected to my TRUE why.

So why bother to slow down?🤔

My journey to a simpler life had been underway for some time. By the time I was 30 I was already questioning my version of reality. I left the long hours I was putting in at a senior management position in a FTSE 100 company. I took time out to travel, to live in the mountains of southern Spain. I studied Homeopathy and set up a natural health practice.

But it was a couple of years ago, in my mid 40’s, when I really downshifted.

A combination of Extinction Rebellion’s powerful call to take action now to change the direction we’re heading in environmentally.

Plus having a (then) 5 year old daughter I was coming to appreciate a view held by Native Americans: that mothers are the first teachers.

What way of living did I want to model for my daughter, and for the generations to come?🌍❤️

So there you have it: for me a fundamental part of making changes in life is having a powerful context.

When you strip your reasons away, what lies beneath? What matters most in your desire to live a simple life?🤔

Let’s flourish together!
