Pride and self-esteem

Here in the northern hemisphere, we are midway between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox. A time known as Lammas or Lughnasadh.

A time of plenty when fruits and vegetables are swelling.

A time for meeting with friends outdoors: our modern day festivals having taken the place of gatherings to celebrate the bringing in of the grain harvest.

It’s time to celebrate the fruits of our labours.🎉

Journalling exercise

To mark this time, I invite you to create a quiet space for yourself this weekend and journal with the following questions,

1) What are three things (inner or outer) you wish to celebrate?

2) What is in your heart?

3) What are you most proud of this year?

Please note: questions 2) and 3) are taken from Danu Forest’s wonderful Lughnasadh visualisation in her book, The Magical Year. A fabulous resource if you’re drawn to finding out more about the seasonal celebrations.

By journalling I simply mean write what instantly comes to mind. Do so without hesitation. You may find it helpful to set yourself a 5 minute timer for each question. If you find yourself stuck, you can write, ‘I don’t know what to write!’ Then re-write the question and allow yourself to be surprised by what else flows on to the page.

Change is in the air

At the same time, seed heads are also starting to form in the garden. I love Glennie Kindred’s comparison of these to, ‘the seeds of our future selves forming.’

As August progresses, there’s a noticeable nip in the air at night and sometimes mists in the morning.

But for now, let’s celebrate and allow ourselves to swell with pride and self-esteem like those fruits and veg.😊🍅🌽👏🏼

Let’s flourish together!

PS. Lammas is on Sunday 1st August.

PPS. For those of you in the southern hemisphere it’s Imbolc, which marks the first stirrings of spring. A time to start bringing those ideas you’ve had over the winter in to the light. A time of opportunity and possibility. Enjoy! x
