I reckon there’s a time of the year when it’s easier to access our creativity.
And the good news is that (here in the northern hemisphere) it’s coming up!😆
In the seasonal calendar we’re coming to the end of the growing year. This is marked by Samhain, the point midway between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice, that falls on 31st October.
For the next six weeks the hours of darkness increase. The trees let go off their leaves as their energy moves to the roots
As in the garden, so in life…
This is potent time to access the stories (from deep within ourselves) that want to be written.
It’s no surprise (to me!) that it’s the month of NaNoWriMo – a challenge to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days that take spaces during November each year.
This weekend, as well as putting the summer furniture away in the shed, I’ll be setting myself up for my very own November writing project.
Which one to choose?🤔
Mine is steered by the module I’m doing at university – screenwriting. I have an assignment to write a script for a short 10-12 minute film.
This week I’ve been fleshing out four possible script ideas. By Sunday I’ll have chosen the one I’m going to develop during November.
Whatever creative project you choose to give your attention to,
How could you set yourself up for a powerful creative experience this November?🤔
Here are a few practical ideas to get you started,
Take charge of your schedule!
Block out time in your diary for your writing each and every day throughout the month. Do this in the same way you would an appointment or a work meeting. Remember it doesn’t have to be big blocks of time – 15 minutes daily may work better than one 3 hour block a week. Plus it’s also more realistic and you keep the momentum going gently.
Prioritise that which gives you energy.
My top three energy-givers are sleep (I love my 9pm bedtime alarm!💤), meditation and weekly food planning. And remember to practice your polite decline to invitations, “Sorry I’m busy that evening. Can we find a date in early December?”
Staying home writing can save you money!
What can you cancel for a month? If you have TV subscription or similar, can you cancel those for one month? It deletes the distraction too! I’ll be making childcare requests. These gift me time and save me money.
Finally, please remember that you matter, your creativity matters.💗
Let’s flourish together!
